Digital Dialogues Roundup - Organisational Resilience in a Global Pandemic

The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has created disruptions of unimaginable proportions. Organisations, particularly in the social impact space, have had to stall, or in some cases, completely halt, their programs. In the wake of this, ‘waiting it out’ is no longer an option, and organisations are now looking to resume operations, by adapting to the current situation.

These ideas birthed toolbox INDIA’s latest edition of Digital Dialogues, on Post Pandemic Vignettes. A stellar lineup of experts in a range of specialisms graciously agreed to collaborate on this event to discuss how organisations can deal with post-pandemic trends to build organisational resilience and meet society’s most pressing needs.

Dealing with disruption: Risk management in the pandemic

Dealing with disruption and moving from survival mode to sustenance mode is not an easy task, and often involves pivoting. For an organisation, pivoting can not only prove vital to adapting in disruptive circumstances, but it can also be an essential risk management strategy to build resilience in the long term and focus on the most lucrative functions. How well an organisation can manage disruption and risk is determined by their culture, collaborative practices and communication. Nonprofits need a layered approach to risk facilitated by capable leadership, and a culture that fosters multi-stakeholder collaboration.

Reaching the consumer: Responding to new trends

The nature of consumption has morphed, particularly with the rise of e-commerce. Organisations can tap into the growing sense of goodwill among people coming together in difficult times, by focusing the conversation not on themselves but on the community in which they are situated. Introducing empathy in messaging, and keeping it local, can help build social harmony and assist organisations in meeting their goals. However, organisations must ensure that their messaging can rise above consumption fatigue by remaining unique, relevant and engaging. Webinars and social media posts need to tap into the depths of human emotion and interaction, through real storytelling and inclusion of multiple voices.

The faces behind the cause : Focusing on humanity

A key focus of this Digital Dialogues series was to spotlight the human aspect of organisations. Organisations would not exist without the people that contribute to their operations, the external partners and networks that collaborate with them, and the community that sustains them. toolbox INDIA itself would not be successful without the small family that works tirelessly, the volunteers and advisors that give generously, the partnerships from which stem so many lucrative projects, and the nonprofits engaged with daily. It follows that a key priority of organisations should be to ensure the wellbeing of their employees, and to foster a culture that takes into account contributions from every one of them.

From within the havoc of the pandemic in India have emerged stories of human resilience that show how much can be achieved if we work together towards a common cause. We hope that we have in some small way contributed to helping those organisations and individuals on the frontlines that work tirelessly to alleviate suffering in these critical times.
